Animal Shelters, Rescues
and Animal Advocacy Groups
Serving Southern Arizona

This list is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as an endorsement or recommendation of any of the individuals or groups listed. You should research organizations thoroughly before deciding to work with a particular group. Please be patient when contacting rescuers, and keep in mind that many are all-volunteer (many have full-time jobs and families in addition to their rescue work) and foster care-based (which means they do not have a shelter facility to house the animals in their care). Only organizations with physical shelter or sanctuary locations have an address listed. If you would like mailing addresses for the groups, contact them via phone or email, or visit their website for more information. If you have additions or corrections to this information, please contact us. Last updated February 11, 2008

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Please note that there are not many organizations that offer financial assistance for veterinary medical bills for pet owners, other than spay/neuter. Funding for animal-related groups is already extremely limited, and many earmark their funds for homeless animals, rather than owned animals. Neglecting to get an animal necessary vet care is against the law, and the fact that it is expensive is not a defense. People who do not feel they can afford vet care for their pets may wish to call local vet clinics to see if any will work with them on payment arrangements, keeping in mind that many clinics require payment at the time of service and are not obligated to clients to offer payment arrangements.

Low-Cost Prescriptions for Your Pets
Retail outlets such as Target, Wal-Mart, Costco and Sam's Club may be able to fill your pet's prescription from your vet at a significantly lower price than other pharmacies. Whether or not these types of discount programs will benefit you and your pet depend on many factors, including the store's policies, brand/generic name, strength, dosage, etc. Please call around to different pharmacies to find the most reasonable price for your pet's prescription.

CareCredit Client Payment Plans
Some veterinary clinics may offer this credit card, providing a line of credit to pet owners. Please contact your local vet to see if they participate in this program and to read all the disclosures about your responsibilities with this credit plan.
